It deserves to mention the background of the villagers from the Old Kardamena to the New one as we know it now. It is known that the residents of Antimachia and Kardamena constituted until the 1850 roughly, as a community and they were living in the big castle of Antimachia. It appears that they were enough in order to have two parishes, Saint Friday and Saint Nikolaos in the narrow space of fortress. They remained obligatory closed there from the fear of pirates Algerians and Saracen’s, where robbing everyone in the white sea.
They only came out during the day, in order to cultivate and take care their properties, by the evening, they should be inside the castle, in order to lock the massive front door so they will be protected all the night!
The revolution of 1821 found them assembled, while our grandfathers narrated  to us, in the castle, big Enetiko  fortress, built in the 1494.While the Fight with the pirates finished and there was no fear any more, they  came out around in 1850 from the limited space walls, in order to stay  in the open and free plain. They were shared in two teams. The one was directed in the SW of castle in a field 200 metres roughly altitude with enough sun and wild trees and stayed in the current Antimachia… the other team moved to the NW and it was installed, at her bigger part, in a valley, full of trees and cultivated fields, with a river passing next to them, and abstain 20 minutes of the hour, roughly, on foot from the beach…
Those who were installed in the Old Kardamena,they could not  fix and remain in this beautiful valley more than 30-40 years.
As was full of mud the place from the water of the river that stayed there during the summer the malaria was killing the population and did not leave the village to be developed.
The villagers believed that, that part was hunted and for that reason the families who stayed there, they were 39.When the families were becoming 40, somebody should move out from the Thermes.
This question of health and the progress of that place put in thoughts the notables of village and after they discussed that situation many times, they led in the decision to abandon the place and go down in the beach, in the current Kardamena.
But the transportation of the village was not an easy move as they believed it would be.
Most of the villagers were poor workers and they naturally did not have, the economic occasion to build other house and live somewhere else.Then most important, to need also big formulations and steps in the Ottoman Government in order to give them the authorisation of staying. They were sending all the time reportes and committees in the Vali' of Rhodes and in the Kardamena of Kos and then they requested they intercede with the Sultan, in order to give them the authorisation.
It appears however, as it is also proved by other information, that, despite the fights and the effort that overwhelmed on so much years in order to they achieve the consent the Turkish Government so that they are transported in the beach, hardly in 1875-1885 they began slowly-slowly moving down the valley and they build their new village…
